56 Simonstown Road was originally owned by Mr Kohler, the Managing Director of KWV wineries.
He owned 2 Hillside road and in 1940 decided to build an extension to the house in Hillside road,
resulting in Number 56, a large three story home with access to the smaller house behind.
At that time the Second world War was in progress and Mr Kohler made his holiday home available to his friend, General Jan Smuts. It is also believed that he hosted the King and Queen of Greece in the house, as at that time they were refugees.
After the war the two houses were divided and 2 Hillside road was sold. The house in Simonstown Road was also sold a little later and after several owners it was bought in 1989 by Cron and Gill von Seidel as a retirement home. They named the house "Nthaba Sea Lodge" and as they continued to live in Zimbabwe until 2000 they converted the ground and top floors to be holiday flats.
The visitors book illustrates how many people enjoyed the lovely views, the comfort, and easy proximity to the beach. One English couple returned regularly for 20 years until advancing age made travelling too difficult.
In October 2014 Cron senior died and the decision was made that his son and daughter-in-law Cron and Shelley would update the property and continue the holiday rental business.
